https://www.commonsensemedia.org/video/educators
Today we'll be watching a series of videos on cyberbullying. As we're going through the videos and discussions, jot down any words that you think relate to cyberbullying in a Word document. Once we're done, you'll take your compiled list of words and enter them into http://www.tagxedo.com/. To receive full credit you need at least 15 words in your collage and you have to edit the font/design. You must show me your word collage before the end of class.

Monday and Tuesday, June 8 and 9, 2015 ~ Cyberbullying
Go to http://www.athinline.org/. Go to the tab titled "get the facts" and read over the 5 categories (this should take you about 30 minutes to the entire thing). Read the information for each of the 5 categories (sexting, constant messaging, spying, digital disrespect, and cruelty). Once you have completed reading, you are going to answer the following questions in paragraph form in a blank Word document. How would you personally define cyberbullying? Who can be affected by cyberbullying? Why is cyberbullying dangerous (or not)? How can you prevent cyberbullying? Which of the 5 categories do you think the worst type of cyberbullying? Why? Have you or someone you know been affected by cyberbullying? What happened? The assignment name is "cyberbullying" so save accordingly (hour, your first and last name, assignment name).
Next you are going to explore the following websites (this should take almost a whole class period because you should be clicking on the tabs, reading the info, watching the videos, trying some of the games and activities out, etc.):
http://www.stopbullying.gov/kids/games/games.html
http://www.digizen.org/resources/cyberbullying/interactive/
http://www.nsteens.org/games/cyberbullyzombies
http://www.deletecyberbullying.org/what-to-do-if-youre-a-victim/
http://www.cybersmart.gov.au/Teens.aspx
http://kidshealth.org/parent/positive/talk/cyberbullying.html
On the same Word document as the previous assignment, you are going to write at least two pros and at least two cons for each website (you are critiquing each saying what you like and don't like about each one). When you are done, write a brief paragraph on which two websites you think are the best and why. Once you have completed both parts of the assignment, you can submit it either to my email or Dropbox. If you by some chance finish early which you shouldn't if you are doing everything that you're supposed to, you may continue to explore the cyberbullying sites or you can work on anything from the What Can I do Now file. It is not free time!

- Open up your Drop assignment, add today's date and reassess your typing ability and compare it to the beginning of the quarter. What have you improved on and what are you still working on?
- Save and exit out.
- Open up your email and log in (username: ID [email protected], password: 8 digits of your birthday).
- Compose an email to me ([email protected]) and attach the Drop file to it. Label the subject as "drop". Write me an appropriate message and then send it to me!
The 2 links below will help you with your keyboarding skill - one is a video and the other will help you practice the typing techniques for the test!
This is a video that shows hand position for homerow and also how to do the shift keys. It's a great resource any time you need a refresher on how to hold your hands and the technique of homerow and your wrist placement!

March 24 - May 15, 2015 Goal: 90% Accuracy, 35 WPM
CO: I will demonstrate application of the proper typing techniques by physically showing them throughout the hour as my teacher observes.
LO: I can orally explain one of the five typing techniques using content specific vocabulary (homerow position, posture, wrist and feet placement, monitor, technique, proper). March 24 - April 16, 2015 ~ Typing Basics: Open the following link. https://strongcomputers.typingclub.com/ Your username is your ID number and your password is whatever you changed it to the first day we logged in. Remember to make sure that you are practicing the 5 typing techniques: homerow position, posture, feet placement, wrist placement, and eye placement! You will be completing lessons 1 - 100 in the Typing Basics using the TypingClub website. For the first 35 lessons the focus will be on accuracy. After that they will start having you focus more on speed. Check the calendar on the homepage for due dates! April 17 - May 5, 2015 ~ Word: For the next two weeks we're going to make your brain think a little differently than it has on typing since we started. You'll be completing 13 typing lessons in Microsoft Word so you'll start with a blank document and won't have the keyboard on your monitor like in TypingClub. Each day you'll be assigned at least one new typing lesson. You'll find the lessons in numbered folders over on the table beneath the chalkboard. You'll type up each lesson in a blank Word document, matching the content on each row. Each assignment name will just be the number that it is. For example, if I'm in fifth hour, assignment one would be saved as 5 Mrs. Henderson 1. Remember to always save with the correct format (hour, first and last name, assignment name). Submit to my Dropbox (password = strong) as you finish with each lesson. May 5 - May 15, 2015 ~ Intermediate: You'll be completing a series of intermediate lessons in TypingClub! You'll have to complete two lessons a day to stay on track. Remember that for these lessons the accuracy is 90% and the speed goal is 35 wpm! |
Monday, March 23, 2015 ~ I understand the rules and expectations of the quarter in computer in class.
CO: I will demonstrate listening skills by physically showing that I am following along on my computer as my teacher observes and the class discusses the rules and expectations.
LO: I can orally explain the golden rule using general academic vocabulary.
Welcome to computers! Open up the file below and wait for further instruction.
